Congratulations on the birth of your long-awaited baby! This is a joyful, but at the same time a very important event for parents. The child wants to be protected from all troubles, especially from dangerous infections and diseases.

Vaccinations help keep your baby healthy, especially in the first year of life. Some parents mistakenly do not trust vaccinations, so they try to postpone this procedure or refuse it altogether. Remember that a delayed vaccination for children in the first year of life is an additional chance for the development of a serious infectious disease!

Hepatitis B Vaccine — HBV

On the first day, the baby is recommended to enter the hepatitis B vaccine, which will protect the baby from possible infection from the mother. During pregnancy, each mother took a test for antibodies to the hepatitis B virus. But even with a positive result, the baby is exposed, albeit small, to the risk of infection with the hepatitis B virus from the mother during childbirth. If you do not pay due attention to this vaccination and postpone it indefinitely, nothing can stop the development of infection in the child’s body. In order for a child’s body to develop long-term protection against viral hepatitis B, it is necessary to repeat the vaccination 3 times at the age of 2, 3.5 and 5 months.

Tuberculosis vaccine — BCG

Vaccination against tuberculosis is the second vaccination of the first year of life in a maternity hospital. Its introduction to a child in the first days after birth avoids the development of very severe forms of tuberculosis, which can be fatal. In Kyrgyzstan, the situation with the incidence of tuberculosis is assessed as unfavorable. People from all social strata are sick. The high infection rate and incidence of tuberculosis in children also indicates the presence of sources of infection among the population.

Diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, pneumococcus and hemophilus influenza

Here are a few more infections against which protective vaccinations are made in the first year of life.

PENTA (DTP-HBV-HIB) — vaccination against whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, hemophilus influenzae and viral hepatitis B, which is given to a child at 2, 3.5 and 5 months.

PCV — vaccination against pneumococcal infection is carried out at 2, 5 and 12 months.

Pneumococcal infection is the cause a large group of diseases that are manifested by various purulent-inflammatory processes in the body. The infection of this group can be «picked up» anywhere. The spread of microbes from person to person occurs predominantly airborne droplets when coughing or sneezing, as well as through contact with objects (contact path) that have come into contact with saliva (spoons, cups, toys and etc.). Especially young children with poorly developed immunity are in the zone risk.

OPV — polio vaccination is given at 2, 3.5 and 5 months.

Poliomyelitis is an acute, viral infectious disease that affects the central nervous system. The source of infection is a sick person and healthy virus carriers (the most common form). Infection occurs through dirty hands, contaminated food and water. Currently, only with the help of preventive vaccinations can this disease be prevented.

MMR — vaccination against measles, mumps and rubella, which is given when the child is one year old.

Vaccinations for children in their first year of life are an important mission of parents to keep their children healthy for many years

In order to develop a stable and strong immune system in a growing body, revaccination has been carried out for several years. This is necessary in order to prepare the child before entering preschool or school to meet new microbes and viruses, many of which can cause serious infectious diseases. Kindergarten and school are places where infections can spread very quickly. Therefore, infections with high infectiousness, such as influenza, measles, rubella, mumps (mumps), chickenpox, become especially dangerous here. Vaccinations are intended to help prevent them.

At 2 years old the first revaccination against whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus is carried out.

At the age of 6 the second revaccination against diphtheria and tetanus is planned, as well as revaccination against measles, mumps and rubella.

At age 11 revaccination against diphtheria and tetanus is carried out.

It is important to remember that only a pediatrician with whom your child is registered and monitored can determine the correct vaccination schedule and, if necessary, give appropriate recommendations.
